May 27, 2021 - Zooming in on Children's Rights
A shocking 53% of Black children’s homes are investigated by child welfare officials. Far too often, investigations unjustly end with children removed from their parents, siblings, and communities and into broken child welfare systems. And when families are separated, children and parents experience trauma.
We brought together advocates, people with lived experiences, and thought leaders to discuss the history of institutional racism in child welfare systems and growing movement for change.

This critical discussion follows the release of Children's Rights advocacy report and call to action, Fighting Institutional Racism at the Front End of Child Welfare Systems. The report puts forth a comprehensive set of actions with the potential to stop unnecessary state involvement in the lives of Black families, dramatically reduce the number of children entering state foster care, and prevent the numerous harms that systems impose on Black youth.
