When you visit the Mendocino Coast in California plan on a trip to the historical town of Fort Bragg. Enjoy some of the many trails Including a walk to Otsuchi Point on the Ka Kahleh Trail.
Ka Kahleh is a Pomo word for White Water. The trail was first established by the Pomo Tribe thousands of years ago. Otsuchi Japan and Fort Bragg, California became sister cities in 2001. Otsuchi, Iwate and Fort Bragg, California share a latitude line. The plaque at the point commemorates this friendship. It was a rainy afternoon when I took the 1 mile round trip walk . The walk is fairly level and paved and affords magnificent views north, west and south. Whales can often be spotted from the point and a great variety of wildlife can make an appearance. I have seen a huge pod of Dolphins, California Sea Lions, Cormorants, Oyster Catchers, Gulls, Pelicans, Deer, Rabbits, Coyotes, Weasels, Northern Harriers, White Shouldered Kites and Falcons. A whale washed up near the point last year. My walk was on part of the Ka Kahleh Trail. The trail is 6 miles long and starts at Pomo Park and ends at Glass Beach
