It's time to start pruning the herbs in your AeroGarden, but maybe you don't have any idea where to start. Don't worry! Pruning the herbs from your AeroGarden gourmet herbs seed pod kit is easy and quick! In this video I show you the proper way to prune each of the AeroGarden herbs. When talking about herbs, pruning is basically the same as harvesting. All the cuttings you have from pruning are your herb garden harvest.

Quick note, while this video was made for the AeroGarden, this process of pruning herbs is the same if you are growing in soil, inside or outside in the garden. So even if you aren't growing in an AeroGarden, this is still for you!

5 of the herbs in the AeroGarden can be pruned in the same way. Both types of basil, the dill, the mint and the parsley are all pruned the same way. Starting from the top of the plant, you will look down a stem to find another set of leaves. (Ideally there will be small, new leaves also stating there) You should cut the stem just above that set of leaves. Do this for each stem of the plant.

It is important to note however that you never want to remove more than 30% of the plant in one pruning. Prune less and more often for best results.

When pruning the thyme you can do it in the same way as the others, or you can simply cut pieces off. Just be sure to not cut more than 30% of the plant at one time.

Another note when pruning dill is to be carful to not remove all the leaves from a stem. If a stem has no leaves, it will not grow more. At that point you can just cut off the entire stem. Dill will have new growth from the center of the plant. You can remove old stems from the outside to make room for the new growth.

You can use the fresh cut herbs right away in a recipe or you can dry them and save for a later date. Either way, the herbs from your AeroGarden will be full of flavor and a great addition to your food dishes.
