(4 Jan 2021) The United States should abandon its attempt to extradite Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, following a British court's refusal to authorise the move, Wikileaks' editor in chief Kristinn Hrafnsson said Monday.
Hrafnsson urged the US not to appeal against the decision.
The judge blocked the request Monday because of concerns over Assange's mental health and the risk that he might kill himself if he were to be transferred to a US jail.
Assange, 49, is wanted over the publication of thousands of classified documents in 2010 and 2011.
The US claims the leaks broke the law and endangered lives.
Assange has fought the extradition and says the case is politically motivated.
US authorities have said they will appeal against Monday's court ruling.
