In this video, OPEX Founder, James Fitzgerald, discusses how to properly breathe and learn work capacity through pacing on a Concept 2 Rower.
James discusses the big 3 stages in terms of progressing your rowing via pace and breathing. More specifically, James discusses:
1. Stage 1 - You must begin by rowing in longer, non-fatigued settings so that you learn how to breathe properly in a sustainable way
2. Stage 2 - You need to add movement(s) to the rowing workouts, but you need to do each round, for ex, in the exact same amount of time
3. Stage 3 - You need to add movement(s) to the rowing workouts, but this time you need to do each set faster than the last
As you do those stages, you will then be able to come back to the non-fatigued state, add volume (reps/distance/time on the Concept 2 Rower), then go back and add the additional elements to the multiple movement workouts at the same pace and then increasing pace each round workouts. That is how you build true capacity, it's not done simply by rowing to suffer.
Enjoy this video, it is a great one for greatly improving your rowing ability.
