Super flavorful and wonderfully aromatic roasted five spice duck at home. Easy duck recipe, Asian soul food. Perfect recipe for dinner.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 whole duck
- Dark soy sauce or regular soy sauce
- Hoisin sauce
- Oyster sauce (optional)
- Chinese cooking wine
- Sesame oil
- Honey
- Worcestershire sauce
- Siracha (optional)
- Five spice powder (you ca easily get them from any Asian market)
- Ginger, garlic and cilantro
- It is ok to miss a few optional ingredients or use substitutions. For example: substitute honey with brown sugar,
PREPARATION
- Create the marinating mixture: in a medium bowl, add 3 TBS hoisin sauce, 1 TBS soy sauce, 1 TBS oyster sauce, 1 TBS Chinese cooking wine, 1 TBS siracha, 1 TSP sesame oil, 1 TSP five spice powder, Chopped garlic and ginger. Whisk them all together
- Prepare the duck: You can either roast the whole duck or break down and carve the duck
- In a large bowl, pour all the marinating sauce that we prepared previously. Mix to make sure every single piece of duck is covered in sauce.
- Cover the bowl and chill in fridge for about 2 hours or more if you have extra time
- Preheat the oven at 400 degree. Line a roasting pan with foil and place a rack large enough to hold the duck on top
- Roast the duck for about 50 – 60 minutes or until the inner temperature reaches 165F. Brush the marinating mixture on duck skin every 15-20 minutes.
- Dipping sauce: 1/3 cup of hoisin sauce, 1 TBS soy sauce, 1 TBS cooking wine, 2 TBS honey, 1 TSP sesame oil, mince ginger and garlic, chopped cilantro
- Serve hot with white rice
