Trump pushes for immunity from lawsuits relating to January 6.


A lawyer for US President Donald Trump told a federal appeals court that his supporters' siege on the US Capitol last year should shield him from civil claims.


Jesse Binnall told the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit that Trump is immune from the claims because he used the "bully pulpit" to comment on outside events when he addressed supporters.


Democrats in Congress and police officers filed various lawsuits over the Capitol incident alleging that Trump collaborated with others to disrupt the certification of the 2020 election results.


Before marching to the Capitol, Trump told his supporters to "fight like hell" and that he would never concede the 2020 election.
