This talk was presented during the National Academy of Sciences Arthur M. Sackler Colloquium Coupled Human and Environmental Systems held in Washington D.C. on March 14-15, 2016.
This colloquium brought together researchers joined by an interest in using the paradigm of coupled human-natural systems to advance our understanding of ecosystem and human health. Research on coupled human-environment systems has often been conducted separately in ecology, epidemiology, geography and other fields for many years, depending on the study system of interest.
