Peppers are one of my fave crops to grow, & I’d like to share with you how I care for them.
I amended my soil well before transplant so that they were off to a good start. Now that they’re in the fruiting stage, I wanna ensure that they’re getting enough nutrients. Everyone has their own way, & I’m only showing what has worked well for me.
🔥There are diff kinds of fertilizers, & every single one has its application directions. I can’t tell you to fertilize your plants every so often, bec I don’t know exactly the type that you’re using. Some options available are liquid, granular, organic, synthetic, etc. I’d recommend you test diff ones & follow instructions so you can see what works best for you. Personally, I’ve been a fan of the Trifecta + slow release fertilizer by MIGardener. I love how easy it is to use - most times you just apply once & the nutrients slowly get released according to what stage the plant is in. I never had to keep up w/ a fertilizing schedule bec of this, & I’ve been very happy with the results. If you’d like to try this specific fertilizer, you can click the link in my bio & get a discount (under MIGardener).
🔥I like to add more compost during the fruiting stage to ensure that the plants are getting what they need. This is esp important for potted plants since their roots aren’t in the ground & can’t spread out to find the nutrients they need. In this reel, I’m using homemade compost.
🔥Worm castings - they provide beneficial bacteria & fungi. I apply at transplant & the middle of the growing season, but u can’t overdo this.
🔥I also use worm tea diluted in water. To get the best results, it’s recommended you do this every 2 weeks, but I’ve not been very diligent this yr. 🤫
🔥I remove all the lower leaves. Phytophthora blight is a disease that is spread by a soil-borne pathogen. Watering or rainfall can cause the soil to splash up on to the foliage, w/c can then introduce the disease.
🔥Most importantly, keep the soil moist, otherwise, they won’t be able to take up the nutrients available in the soil.
