Caterham Super Seven 1600 Review: A Classic Car...That's New?!
Hello guys, welcome back to Car Obsession, and welcome to the 'new' Caterham Super Seven 1600. That's right, the car you see before you is a brand new car, despite looking like it's come from the 70s. That is actually the whole point of this car as Caterham has taken inspiration from Caterhams from the time when funk was as popular as ever, as were flared trousers.
To help set the tone, Caterham has designed the Super Seven 1600 to have long, flared wheel arches, dials provided by Smiths, and a wire mesh grille. This model also features a wooden Mota-Lita steering wheel to complete the look, but that's an optional extra.
It also has a sound that's from yesteryear, thanks to a 1.6 litre Ford Sigma petrol engine which makes use of twin throttle bodies to aid airflow, but just as importantly, give a distintivce sound that will make any petrolhead worth their salt weak at the knees.
It may only have 'just' 135bhp with 165Nm of torque, but thanks to a body that weighs about the same as a packet of crisps it's able to propel itself to 60mph in just 5.0 seconds. If you're feeling brave enough (and it's legal, of course) you'll hit a top speed of 122mph.
