Golubac, Serbia - Hidden in the easternmost corner of Serbia, Golubac is one of the most incredible places located right on the banks of the Danube as it enters into the Carpathian Mountains, the fortress served as an important strategic point for many empires centuries ago. Golubac Fortress is approximately 130 km (or about 81 miles) from the capital city of Belgrade. Golubac Fortress is a medieval fortress that was built in 14th century (1301-1400) Serbia. Golubac Fortress consists of 10 towers which are mostly square. The Danube River at the fortress location is as wide as 6.5 km (4.0 mi).
The Avala Tower the tallest tower in the Balkan region has a height of 205m. It is located on the Avala mountain in the outskirts of Belgrade. The tower was initially destroyed in NATO bombardment of Serbia in 1999. However, the reconstruction started in 2006 it was officially opened in 2010. You can enjoy a drink or some desserts up on the top or buy a souvenir of your liking.
