At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, part of a residential building in Surfside, Florida, collapsed. Officials held a second press conference to update the public on rescue and recovery efforts.
One person was killed, 102 people were accounted for and 99 people are still missing. Fire rescue teams are working with residents to reunify them with their families as they are being briefed on the efforts. Food, hotels, social services, medicine and chaplains are available to those impacted and displaced by the tragedy. City leaders are waiting for federal assistance from FEMA. A hotline and website for donations has been set up for the public.
