This full documentary covers the history of the Japanese Invasion of Manchuria 1931-1932
The Mukden Incident, also known as the Manchurian Incident of 1931, marked the start of Japan's invasion of Manchuria, orchestrated by Ishiwara Kanji of the Kwantung Army. Japan's leaders believed Manchuria was crucial for their economic and national security due to its vast resources and strategic location. Ishiwara, anticipating a future global conflict, executed a false flag operation at the Peitaying barracks in Mukden, defying Tokyo's orders.
Following the incident, the Japanese army swiftly captured key cities like Kirin, Liaoyang, and Changchun through military force and political coercion. Despite significant resistance, notably by General Ma Zhanshan in Heilongjiang, the Japanese overpowered the Chinese forces. Ma's resistance, although ultimately unsuccessful, inspired widespread opposition against the Japanese across Manchuria.
The conflict escalated as the Japanese targeted Jinzhou, the stronghold of Manchurian warlord Zhang Xueliang. Despite seeking aid from the League of Nations, Zhang couldn't halt the Japanese advance and retreated from Manchuria, leading to the establishment of the puppet state of Manchukuo.
In Shanghai, anti-Japanese sentiment and riots sparked further conflict. Japanese and Chinese forces clashed intensely until the League of Nations brokered a truce, resulting in a demilitarized zone in Shanghai. These events signaled the beginning of a prolonged conflict, leading to Japan's eventual downfall. The Mukden Incident and subsequent battles highlighted Japan's aggressive expansionist policies and set the stage for the extensive warfare that followed in the Asia-Pacific region.
