Read and learn about the first book of Homer’s Odyssey and how it begins the epic poem…
NOTE: references to death and mortality and patricide
ALSO NOTE: I’ve done my best with the voices ;)
Homer’s epic is so long that some suggest it was listened to by an audience over several days at a festival, which is what I’ve represented here, but more likely individual episodes from it were sung at banquets - just like happens in the Odyssey itself when the bards Phemius and Demodocus perform. The rhapsode would probably also have played the lyre to accompany himself, but mine has musicians just out of shot 😉
The rest of this video is a daithful rendering of the Odyssey text with the story and exposition explained ad context given - hopefully to help your understanding and increase your enjoyment!
