Ken-Betwa River-Linking Project: Balancing Development and Sustainability"
The Ken-Betwa River-Linking Project, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is a bold initiative to tackle Bundelkhand’s drought crisis. Estimated at ₹49,000 crores, this project aims to connect the surplus waters of the Ken River to the water-scarce Betwa River, providing irrigation for 10.6 lakh hectares of farmland, drinking water for 62 lakh people, and generating 103 MW of hydroelectric power.

Irrigation & Water Supply: Revolutionizing Bundelkhand’s agriculture and drinking water access.
Construction Details: Daundhan Dam, a critical component, aims for completion within eight years.
Energy Generation: Harnessing hydro and solar power to meet regional needs.
However, the project faces significant criticism:
Environmental Concerns: Submergence of 98 sq. km of Panna Tiger Reserve, deforestation, and threats to the endangered gharial population.
Social Impact: Displacement of over 6,500 families across Chhatarpur and Panna districts.
Feasibility Issues: Questions about Ken River’s water availability and long-term sustainability.
