Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer slams Boris Johnson's handing of the Owen Paterson saga as the Commons holds an emergency debate on rules for MPs, with the Prime Minister absent.
He said Mr Johnson should have told Mr Paterson to “accept his punishment”, adding: “His duty of care towards him demanded that he do that, his duty to defend standards demanded that he do that, basic decency demanded that he do that.
“Instead, the British people were let down and the former member for North Shropshire was let down, used as a pawn in an extraordinary attack on our Commissioner for Standards", he said.
