Lateral Collateral Ligament (LCL) of the Knee***
AKA Fibular Collateral Ligament & Long External Lateral Ligament.
Originates on the Lateral Femoral Condyle.
Runs inferior & posterior.
Inserts into the Fibular Head.
Does not attach to lateral meniscus or joint capsule.
More flexible & less susceptible to injury than the MCL.
Provides stability to lateral aspect of knee joint.
Functions to resist excessive varus motion.
Taut in extension. Loosened in flexion.
