60% of the global tuna catch is from the Western and Central Pacific. The four tuna status is reported to be on healthy status (2022 WCPFC report). However, successful fisheries management can be challenging. It requires a consideration of economic, social, biological and environmental factors.
Furthermore, multiple stakeholders could be involved. And each of them could have a range of objectives that they want to achieve.
The WCPFC is developping Harvest Strategies for the four main tuna species in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean.
