The topic of this video is: Is That All You Do?
Here is some of what is discussed in this video:
Charlie: Here's a fun question for you, Dan. I get it myself sometimes in the work that I do. "Is that all you do?" It's like "Where's the beef?" Is that all you do if somebody were in vision insurance? It seems like it's kind of simple, I think it's probably not.
Daniel: Right. It seems like these days there are a ton of companies getting into vision. It could be the major health carrier you're with buying out a vision company that was exclusively vision so now they do all sorts of stuff. There are standalone vision companies out there that all they do is vision, so they better be good at it.
Charlie: I want to make sure when I go get my glasses -- I know this may be a surprise to you, but I use my eyes every day, they're real important to me and I want to make sure that my glasses are done right.
Daniel: There's actually still a lot of companies out there who because it is just vision, just do straight reimbursements. In that case you're not getting any discounts on anything, there's no contract, exam rates, lens rates, fees.
Charlie: They're not controlling the cost.
Daniel: They're not controlling the costs at all, they just reimburse an employee a set amount of money. For that same amount of money, the company could spend the same amount and give their employees a much better benefit through using a better vision company.
Charlie: That second one sounds better to me. I like to know when I'm going in it's going to be covered and I can make decisions beyond that.
Daniel: Yes. Again, you're just getting more for your money if you use a carrier.
Charlie: Right. I understand when I go in to get glasses -- I was in not too long ago and they took the glasses and they twisted them and said that they were titanium.
I didn't particularly want to spend $600 or whatever they were saying for those glasses, these type of glasses were fine for me. But it's nice to know that the good vision insurance companies are going to contain those costs the best they can.
Daniel: Absolutely. Hopefully, at least 50% off of retail. It's hard to put a number on it because it depends on what you get, but there is a significant savings, typically.
Charlie: Nice.
