The BJP lawmaker from Goshamahal, T Raja Singh, was released from custody on Tuesday night, hours after he had allegedly made derogatory remarks against the Prophet Muhammad. The police requested a 14-day remand, but the 14th Additional Magistrate Court ordered his immediate release due to procedural errors such as failing to send a notice. The police were not given notice under CrPC 41(A) before the arrest, according to Raja Singh's attorney, and the court agreed with that reasoning. Raja Singh's attorney informed reporters that the police disregarded the Supreme Court's directives that a notice is given to the suspect before their arrest in cases carrying sentences of less than seven years in jail. There was some tension in the court as supporters and opponents of Raja Singh gathered and shouted slogans.
