"Sniffer" type electronic leak detectors. heated diode and infrared.
There are many different brands and types available. We previously discussed Ultrasonic so this will be focused on Heated Diode and Infrared.
Infrared is the newer style. the sensor stays accurate over its life span. Its less susceptible to false alarms and other chemicals. The down side it it must be continuously moved you cannot stop in one section. its reading a differential and sometimes you need to take the meter to a fresh air location first.
Heated Diode can be stationary and still detect but even a heated diode may need to be pulled away when it gets too much concentration. The sensors are subject to other chemicals and false alarms. The sensor is sensitive to moisture so the tip must be kept clean and dry. They do not work with A2L (mildly flammable) refrigerants.
