We often joke with our boat buddies that – It doesn’t matter where in the Caribbean you are coming from, where you are going, or what are the forecasted conditions…you will ALWAYS be POUNDING into the wind. The good thing is most islands are close. Passages are often completed in daylight with just enough time to bookend with coffee & cocktails. This particular passage was just over 40 miles. We pulled up anchor in Falmouth Harbor Antigua at 7am and made it to Deshaies Guadeloupe by 3pm.
With only a short time to explore before our family flys in for our scuba certification scheduled in Dominica. We pull up anchor and start to head south. Exploring the lee coast of the Guadeloupe before making our way to the popular Des Saints Islands.
Replacing the packing gland on the drive shaft while in the water. To be honest we were both quite nervous about this process and the ramifications if we screwed it up. But it went off without a hitch and was surprisingly much easier than either of us anticipated.
