Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh noted that the popular attitude and movement in Manipur demanding the adoption of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is a positive indicator of the indigenous people's worry over the increasing infiltration of outsiders into the state. In response to a query on the NRC agitation in Manipur, Biren stated that the Government had already extended the Inner Line Permit system to the state in acknowledgment of the potential threat to the native people caused by the growing number of migrants and immigrants. Furthermore, Biren pledged that the state government will take suitable measures to identify illegal immigrants in all areas of Manipur and commence legal proceedings for their deportation.
