Tiger grouper, also marketed as Brown-marbled grouper or Epinephelus fuscoguttatus shared the same common name with Mycteroperca tigris. However, this species has been commercially cultured for food consumption in the East and Southeast Asia. In Malaysia, the hybrid of Epinephelus fuscoguttatus and Epinephelus lanceolatus grouper has been introduced since 2007 and the culture has been expanding since then. According to previous studies, this hybrid is more favourable than the parental stock due to the higher hatching and survival rate, amazing growth performance and resilience to disease. There was once a farmer, who became a millionaire here just by supplying the seed.
