Antechinus Twerking
This video shows a Yellow-footed Antechinus waving its bottom in the air or 'Twerking', this is a behaviour we have noticed quite often in Autumn and early Winter.
All Antechinus species are renowned for the fact that all males die each year after a short mating season in Autumn/Winter, leaving a population of pregnant females. The males mate frantically with as many females as possible before they die. We think these bottom wagging Antechinus are all females trying to spread their pheromones about by putting scent into the air.
The young of the Yellow-footed Antechinus are not weaned for 3 or 4 months, the longest time recorded for a carnivorous mammal. This species is more active during daylight than other Antechinus so we have many daytime photos and videos.
