This video shows the process (2x speed) of tagging a Lake Trout (Salvelinus namaycush) with an acoustic telemetry transmitter. Note the person to the left is providing freshwater across the gills. Prior to surgery, the fish was anesthetized with the compound MS-222. All surgical equipment is "sterilized" in a solution of iodine. Once recovered, the fish is released back into the lake.
The aim of this research is to use tagged and untagged fish to estimate population size and habitat use.
