Brewery Beer Description:
Atalanta is a character in Greek mythology, a virgin huntress, unwilling to marry, and loved by the hero Meleager. According to the Bibliotheca of pseudo-Apollodorus, Atalanta was the daughter of Iasus, son of Lycurgus, and Clymene, daughter of Minyas.
In the heroine Atalanta, we see the traits of what we aim for in all of our beers: piquant, deceptively robust, and a bit wild. A tart plum saison, Atalanta tastes of plums intermingling with spicy yeast, and a refreshing tartness that makes Atalanta as good for pairing with food as by itself.
Our review process entails a very detailed analysis that includes the look of the can, sound, and smoke when you open it, consistency at pour, smell, and finally taste.
Orpheus has become a favorite brewery of the Beer Tales crew, but this was the first canned beer we had from the Atlanta Brewery.
El Pato Grande joined us for another review as our resident sour “expert.” Oscar’s son Nico was also on hand for this review, but he’s too young to have beer, so he was recused from the review.
Though this wasn’t technically a sour, it was introduced to Oscar by the brewers at Orpheus as an “introduction” to sours. Overall, great scores across the board...El Pato didn’t quite consider this a sour, but agreed he could drink it all day in addition to pouring it over his head to cool off. Critical Chris was very pleased, Alberto was more concerned with head, and Oscar is still not telling us about his “special time” at the brewery.
Once again, Orpheus avoided the dump bucket with another quality craft beer!
Don’t Blame us... Blame the beer!
