Australian Monarchist League Chairman Eric Abetz says Australia has a “wonderful constitutional monarchy” which they don’t want to change to a republic.
Mr Abetz joined Sky News host Danica De Giorgio to discuss the latest developments of the debate on whether Australia should become a republic.
“Australians all those years ago voted for our constitution, it’s the people’s constitution and they set it up with a constitutional monarchy,” he said.
“Fast forward 99 years or there abouts, Australians had another go, and I actually believe that the poll that counts is the one where people vote.
“In 1999, 60 per cent of Tasmanians voted no.”
