Mick Lynch accused the Department for Transport of insisting on the widespread expansion of driver-only operation (DOO) of train services in the negotiations between the RMT union and the Rail Delivery Group.
He told MPs: “We will never sign up to accept DOO. It will never happen while I’m the general secretary, it will never happen as long as the RMT exists. It’s daft. To me, it’s sabotage. They wanted these strikes to go ahead.”
Mick Lynch said the Government “didn’t lift the telephone or lift a finger” to attempt to halt strikes in December, adding: “It’s deliberate torpedoing of the talks which could have developed. That’s why DOO is there. Not because it would have helped resolve the dispute.”
