Is A I actually being used to help us? A I is being used to unlock the secrets of a 2,000-year-old Herculaneum scrolls. They're preserved but charred by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE.
These scrolls are too fragile to unroll, but inside could be lost works of literature, philosophy, and science from the ancient world.
Enter A I! Researchers are using advanced imaging techniques like X-ray phase contrast and machine learning to virtually unroll the scrolls.
With the scrolls open, Already A I is able to pick out patterns that reveal letters and words, and we’re getting closer to uncovering the entire content of these ancient manuscripts!
