The film, Niyoga, is written and directed by Sumathy - the first Canadian Tamil Film female director based in Toronto. It is a gripping story of Malar, a middle-aged Tamil woman, a political refugee who fled Sri Lanka during the civil war. It revolves around a fractured immigrant family, people left behind, especially a woman, without choice, without voice, and without a future.
