Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com. Today we’re scoping out the Palladium Gain Stage by Seymour Duncan. The Palladium features a host of controls that read like an amp’s front panel, such as Gain, Master Volume, a three-band EQ with Mid enhancement, and a handy Presence control. With all these features, the Palladium oozes medium to high-gain tone. Players can make liberal use of the Gain and Resonance knobs and they are extremely interactive, shaping the gain across different frequencies before it hits the generous EQ. When both knobs are cranked up, you’ll have your amp’s front end against the ropes, and by engaging the footswitchable boost, your amp’s front end will be pummeled with harmonically rich high gain tone. And because the Palladium is meant to replicate the sound and feel of an actual tube amp, all the articulation is there that you might expect. The pedal is very touch-sensitive and responds well to increased picking strength, so it feels like plugging straight in to your own amp. The Palladium also accepts 18 volts of power, so players running several pedals before the Palladium can take advantage of a higher headroom sound. Each Palladium is made in the same stateside factory that winds all of Seymour Duncan’s pickups.
