Obtained with grapes coming from a vineyard older about 50 years, Naturalis Historia Taurasi DOCG is a wine of great structure, emblematic of the territory of Irpinia, described by Virgil as a "land jealous of its many mysteries."
The first vintage was released in 1997 (classified with the appellation of Irpinia IGT), as a project of experimental viticulture, blending Aglianico (85%) and Piedirosso, in the peculiar microclimate of the first hill that provides access to the estate of Mirabella Eclano. The study of research on this wine aims at exploring different viticultural techniques, as well as aging and refining in the cellar.
After the first important results, in 2003 Naturalis Historia drops the contribution of Piedirosso, in order to focus on the huge potential of vinifying 100% Aglianico grapes. Classified as Taurasi DOCG, it became the most exclusive CRU within the Mastroberardino Taurasi selection.
The soil of origin - deep, loam-sandy, volcanic, with deep layers of clay and traces of limestone along the profile - gives it a wide, intense and persistent bouquet, offering aromas reminding of violet, currant, wild blackberry, strawberry, black cherry, chocolate and vanilla, and gives it a warm, enveloping, extremely smooth taste, with aromas of plum, bitter cherry, raspberry, strawberry jam and spices.
Starting by the 2008 harvest, Naturalis Historia has a new and further enriched look.
