In 2010, the Atlantic red snapper fishery in federal waters off Florida was closed to allow populations to recover from overharvesting. A limited harvest season for federal waters was approved for 2012 and 2013. During these harvest seasons, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) staff were stationed at boat ramps across the east coast of Florida. These FWC biologists intercepted anglers as they came in from fishing, in an effort to gather data on red snapper and fishing efforts.
