Kingston is an adult male Black Flying-Fox who flew into a fishhook dangling from discarded fishing line in a tree, and hooked up his wrist, face and his mouth.
Of the rescue, Mandi says:
Becky & Eli were at the beach with their dogs, a rare day off together for them
BCRQ got the call that Kingston required rescue, and rang them.
Becky and Eli had to stop everything, go home and drop off the dogs and then embark in this mammoth rescue. He was inaccessible so they called in the fire brigade.
Becky & Eli took Kingston to Charmaine for assessment. She removed the hook and put a dressing on the wing.
Then Becky (a human nurse) had to start work for a night shift, so Eli drove an additional 2.5hr round trip to bring Kingston to me.
It was an epic effort by everyone just to get the bat to me.
I am only a tiny cog in the complex machine to try and save Kingston’s life
The huge hook entered Kingston's mouth, ripped up his gum and pierced through his face up into his orbital socket (eye socket) but didn't pierce his eye; his wrist was also entangled and pierced, and one tooth was hanging by a thread so it was removed.
All in all, he was a very miserable boy with an infected and sore face and an iffy prognosis, but in Mandi's care he's slowly coming good.
Mandi needed a urine specimen and given that he wasn't able to supply this easily, she repurposed an endotracheal tube for a urine collector (smart). He didn't have a urinary infection though he showed a high glucose content which is sometimes indicative of an infection; he's on antibiotics; this sorted itself over the next few days.
Watch as he slowly regains the ability to feed himself on soft fruit.
Thanks Mandi for the footage.
This footage is given in thanks for the continuing donations which help support the fruit costs for her bats.
Tolga Bat Hospital takes donations for Mandi.

Mention Megabattie or Meg in the PayPal message box and the money will find its way to Mandi
If no message box appears, please email Jenny to tell her that the money is for Mandi.
IMPORTANT: If you pay through the PayPal Giving Fund, can you please email Jenny with the amount donated and the name under which you have donated, OR just forward along the PP receipt.
The Giving Fund doesn’t charge any fees (so the bats get more money) but PP doesn’t itemise out the amount, they just send a total every month, and we don’t know if the money is for Tolga or for Megabattie.
Here’s Jenny’s email.
