I just picked up a Trek Top Fuel 9.7 and thought I would do a bike check on it, while comparing it to the Top Fuel 8 and 9.8. Given the global bike shortage and supply chain issues it took 10 months to get this new bike, but so far it seems to have been worth it.
This bike did come with SRAM DB8 brakes, but was originally spec'd for Shimano Deore. I as hoping for the Shimano brakes because I prefer how the levers fit my hands, and their adjust ability compared to the SRAMs. Shimano also uses mineral oil which I prefer due to it's non-toxicity. However, the DB8 brakes use mineral oil. I will probably end up swapping these out for Shimano brakes, but that will likely happen later.
So far I only have about ten miles on it so it's impossible to give it a comprehensive review, but first ride impressions are good. It definitely pedals better than my old Fuel EX 9, and I'm really looking forward to putting more miles on it.
