The goggles are a single unit and come with a cleaning cloth, and an instruction booklet. These goggles have a plastic frame body and are fairly lightweight coming in at a little under 1 lb. The goggles use elastic straps to stay put that go around the sides and top of your head that are adjustable via Velcro strap ends. On top there’s a plastic piece with a foam pad for stability, and the three bands are held in place at the back of your head with a flexible leather pad. The part of the goggles where you’ll put your face is padded with about 3/4” of cushy foam that won't leave you with "goggle-face" when you're done. Out of the dozen or so VR headsets I’ve used so far, this one is pretty comfortable in comparison.
The front of the unit features a hinged semi-transparent shell that opens via a button on top. The clear shell allows for use of your phone’s camera for augmented reality apps without having to remove any panels or significant light bleed, which is nice. Your phone will simply sit on top of the rubber pads inside the tray, though you should make sure your headphone jack is facing the left side where you’ll find the wire/jack for the built-in headphones. The sides of the holder are open so you can have your device plugged in and charging while you use the headset. Each earpiece of the earphones is adjustable in length independently from one another.
On top you can adjust the pupil distance and on the sides the dials allow you to adjust the focus. If you're seeing double vision, oftentimes this means the center of the phone is not aligned with the center of the viewing panel. On the bottom of the unit, on the right hand side is a rubber button that when pressed will trigger a screen tap which is required for some apps (Google Cardboard) and games. This feature is missing from many viewers that aren't made of cardboard, so I'm glad to see it finally included on a headset. On the left hand side is a control toggle for adjusting the volume through the headphones up and down.
There's a cardboard QR code in the manual to set the viewer up in the Google Cardboard app. The goggles with your phone in it can get kind of heavy and tiring just sitting on your face, so I still like to hold the goggles with my hands from time to time to keep the weight off my face. However, it’s nice that I can let go when my arms are tired. If you’re sensitive to motion sickness, using the goggles for extended periods of time may make you feel nauseated. Also, if your phone screen or the lenses are dirty or scratched, this may detract from your viewing experience. Overall, I like this headset for its fit, comfort, and compatibility with VR and AR apps. The screen tap button works flawlessly and the headphones help make the experience that much more immersive which is great for watching 3D and 360 movies/video and playing games.
