Look at the steering effect on a big boat if the canal is too shallow....
the Bank Effect is the bow wave that pushes your boat away from the bank...
and the Wash effect is the aerated water at the stern that effectively sucks your stern towards the bank...
so the boat is constantly trying to turn away from where you're going. Eeesh it's hard work on the arms!
