This is one of the world’s finest examples of prehistoric gold working. Dating to c.1900 – 1600 BC, middle bronze age Britain, the Mold Cape, was discovered in 1833 in Flintshire, Wales in the burial mound of a high-status woman. The cape was expertly hammered out of a single ingot of gold, and decorated with ribs and bosses. Originally it was attached to a lining, perhaps of leather, and the bronze strips may have strengthened it further.
