Yellow warbler birds: Birding with Rob Stavinga.
The Yellow Warbler is a small, brightly-colored bird that is a joy to spot in the wild. These birds are typically found in open woodlands, forests, and shrublands, and can be seen darting through the branches and flitting from tree to tree. With their distinctive yellow plumage and sweet, melodic song, they are a favorite among birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts.
The males have a splash of rusty-red on their breasts, while the females are a bit duller in color. These birds are active during the breeding season, building nests from grasses and plant fibers and laying a clutch of four to five eggs.
The Yellow Warbler is a migratory species, spending winters in Central and South America before returning to North America in the spring. Their populations are stable and they are not considered to be at risk of extinction, making them a common sight in many regions of North America. If you're an avid birder or simply appreciate the beauty of nature, keep an eye out for the charming and colorful Yellow Warbler on your next outdoor adventure.
Each week, Kawartha Conservation Watershed Resources Technician Rob Stavinga takes viewers on a birding journey through the Kawartha watershed. Rob talks about the types of birds that can be found throughout the watershed, how to listen for them, where to find them and how to see them. This week we look at the Yellow Warbler.
