In this talk, of interest to current and prospective students of History, Religion and Politics, Anna Chrysostomides takes us back nearly 1,400 years looking at strong women and their actions, with some fascinating insights into the culture and politics of a very different era. It's refreshing to see that some of the conclusions which Anna draws are both unpredictable, and timeless.
Anna is a historian of late Antiquity and early Islam in the eastern Mediterranean and the territories beyond towards Iran, with a focus on Christian-Muslim relations and conversion to Islam. She teaches in the Department of Theology and Religion at the University of Oxford, and is also a lecturer in Islamic History at Queen Mary, University of London.
