Everybody knows what a total lunar eclipse is. I don’t want to waste my time telling about it. Just Google it. So basically it happens when the sun, moon, and Earth are perfectly aligned, and the Earth's shadow completely covers the moon. See the photograph above to understand it better. So then, what’s a partial lunar eclipse? Well, during a partial lunar eclipse, the Earth is slightly out of alignment with the moon and the sun. Therefore, we end up seeing a relatively boring lunar eclipse, because only a part of the moon remains hidden. During a penumbral lunar eclipse, the earth gets out of alignment with the sun and the moon even further. Such a lunar eclipse is the most boring to watch. I would rather stay home and play indoor baseball than watch the penumbral lunar eclipse. It is not interesting at all, so don’t waste your time. Were you expecting strawberry visuals or something similar? Sorry to disappoint you, but the phrase strawberry moon has more to do with the relatively short strawberry season and less to do with the moon or lunar eclipse per se.
