►The cartridge oil filters have become the norm for many of Europe's finest. Unfortunately, this newest generation of BMW straight-sixes has a bit of an issue with them. The used filter is obviously soaked in oil, but that will cause the filter element to separate from its base, which then remains stuck in the oil filter housing upon removal. While this mostly affects the early B58s, later engines can still have it occur. Luckily, removing the stuck base is as simple as using the right pick tool.
Follow along with Alex Nelson, FCP Euro's Automotive Design Engineer, as he explains how to remove a broken oil filter from a B58 engine.
