A look at Wigan Wallgate station - the smaller of the 2 railway stations in Wigan - on the morning of Saturday 30th May 2015.
Wigan Wallgate was originally opened by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway company in 1896 and in 1978 the platform buildings were rebuilt.
The station is on the Manchester to Southport route and is served by trains going to and from Southport to Manchester Victoria and Manchester Airport as well as Manchester Victoria to Kirkby (Merseyside).
In terms of activity, there is very little when compared to its neighbour - Wigan North Western and the only motive power to be seen are class 142 'Pacer' and class 150 'Sprinter' diesel multiple units. However, as I was going to film at Wigan North Western, I thought it would be nice to make a brief call here also.
