CAIR-San Diego Asks FBI to Probe Letter Threat, Unknown Substance Sent to Mosque
(SAN DIEGO, CA, 10/9/14) -- The San Diego chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-San Diego) today asked the FBI to investigate a threatening letter with an unknown substance sent to a local Mosque.
CAIR-San Diego reported that the letter referred to applying the “DEATH sentence” and also made reference to Los Angeles, Oakland and San Francisco. Because of those references, the Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization is asking California mosques to report any similar threats.
"Any such threat is serious, but it is of particular concern when a house of worship is targeted," said CAIR-San Diego Executive Director Hanif Mohebi. "We believe this incident is a direct result of the rising level of anti-Muslim sentiment in our society that goes largely unchallenged."

CAIR is urging community leaders to implement safety measures outlined in its booklet, "Best Practices for Mosque and Community Safety," which was published in response to previous attacks on American mosques.
The booklet is designed to be used by mosque officials, Muslim school administrators and other community leaders and activists who seek to identify and eliminate vulnerabilities to bias-motivated attacks.
