Sadiq Khan faces criticism for ending funding for the Online Watch Link (OWL), a platform that alerted Londoners to local crimes and shared police advice.
The issue was raised after Tory Susan Hall claimed “large numbers” of crimes were being “effectively decriminalised” in London. Khan accused Hall of “crocodile tears,” saying she stayed silent while he lobbied the Conservative government to reverse police and youth club funding cuts.
In March, his office decided to stop funding OWL from October. The platform had allowed the Met Police to send crime alerts, prevention tips, and positive updates directly to residents.
Jonny Gould speaks with former Met detective, Peter Bleksley.
