Priene, an ancient Greek city of Ionia, is built around one of the horst graben mountains in the valley of Menderes. While we see the city overlooking a valley, which is among the most fertile agricultural plains of Turkey today, the Ionians in their time were enjoying the sight of the sea and harbor from the Temple of Athena.
The theater in Priene, where festivals in the name of Dionysos and public meetings were held, is one of the best preserved theaters from the Hellenistic period to make it to our day.
