Vivekananda Samiti, is one of the oldest club here in IIT-K. We work for the well being of society and help our campus community to achieve human excellence.
This time we are coming up with a talk on "Vedanta and Scientific temper"
Speaker: Prof. Chakravarthy Balaji
About Speaker:
Dr. Chakravarthy Balaji is currently a Professor in the dept. of Mechanical Engineering in IIT-Madras. He has over 25 years of experience in teaching and research. He has authored over 180 International Journal Publications. He received many awards throughout his carrier. He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Thermal Sciences published by Elsevier. He is a student of Vedanta. For over a decade now, he is the faculty advisor of the Vivekananda Study Circle at IIT Madras.
His lectures on "Joy of teaching" and "Joy of research" are well known and he had given many talks on these topics in different places.
About the talk:
Speaker will give a glimpse at the basic aims, scope, and characteristics of Vedanta and science. This is followed by a discussion on a possible harmony between science and Vedanta with a focus on the similarities between the two. Key ideas on happiness, work and the goals of life as approached in Vedanta and in western psychology are presented followed by a final discussion on integrating both for a more meaningful life.
