Under Minister Maru's guidance, the Department of International Trade and Investment has become the go-to resource for large foreign investments in Papua New Guinea. James Marape in the previous year has brought a renewed focus on economic growth and international collaboration.
In September 2022, Prime Minister Marape and Minister Maru visited Tokyo, where they met with the esteemed Japanese think tank, Japan Development Institute (JDI). This collaboration resulted in the development of a new SEZ Master Plan for Papua New Guinea. Working alongside partners like the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the World Bank, JDI has been instrumental in supporting the creation of SEZs across our nation.
