Review: Bug Bites Color Enhancing Food. The food line of bug bites made by Fluval is really growing in popularity. It's crazy good for tropical community
My review on the Fluval bug bites color enhancing formula.
Best and most cost effective heater for a new 5.5 gallon betta tank? Also best commercial betta food? (Preferably carried at Petsmart, I work there and live in a small town)
I have a betta at work that I found in his cup with apparent tail rot and a swim bladder issue, as he was floating on his side uncontrollably. Was told to treat in the 30 gallon iso tank for 7 days with Melafix and salt. I have no idea if this was the right course of action but it seemed to work. His tail looks much better and he's upright and occasionally swimming down deeper as opposed to floating on the surface (we had originally set up a bubbler to keep him from getting stuck on the low flow filter).
Today i noticed he was keeping his left side fin (can you tell I know so much about fish?) kind of pressed against his body. Any ideas why he would do this? I've been hand feeding him thawed frozen bloodworms via a turkey baster. I've worked pretty hard to save him so I decided to give him a home. I haven't had a betta since I was 13. He lived for about 3 years in a 2 gallon bowl, which of course now I know was pretty sucky for him.
A coworker is giving me a brand new 5.5 gallon starter kit so I'm going to be setting that up tomorrow and jump starting my cycle with API QuickStart and fish food. Does anyone have any tips on hurrying along the cycling process? If I can get some bio media from anyone with a healthy tank I will add that to the filter. I know you can only rush it so much, but I have a bit of a time constraint because if I leave him in iso too long my manager will toss him back in a cup on the shelf, and I know he'll die and I kinda love him, even though he's a fish.
Thanks for the help! Props to you if you read this whole boring post! He posed for this picture then swam away i love his little angry face. Bug bites cichlid
and as for heater try the topfin metallic colored one with a thermometer built in (don't trust that thermometer alone) I do rated for 20 gallon so it doesn't work as hard to heat and doesn't need to come on as often :) as long as it fits it's okay to use.
Omega one. And frozen food
Bloodworms should be fed as treats and daphnia used for laxative. Thanks! I thought anout that one, i think its what he's using at this moment. Ive read that swim bladder problems can be the result of chronic constipation, do you think this food will be okay for that?
Really all depends on betta. I've been feeding mine bug bites for 3 years, no swim bladder problems. Like I said if you do see he's having trouble passing waste or looks bloated try frozen daphnia (people say use peas, DONT please. Peas to betta is like cheese to a lactose intolerant person.. yeah maybe helps to poop but it probably hurts).
That's very helpful, thank you! I will definitely try to find some and give that a shot, although he appears to be improving. They just get pellets in the cups and I feel like that may not be the best.
Buy out the frozen section lol it will last forever and you'll have a great variety. I buy everything that says freshwater, or even the fresh and salt water kinds (like shrimp)
Also feed in a separate area, scoop them up in a bowl and feed in there. Training to like the bowl for water changes also or if you need to catch him quickly. Always worried about fires especially now living in apartment (been in one and lost pets). Everybody now gets crate trained by a sound! Helps with the vet trips too .
